Meet the Chapin Family

In the long, rich history of family groups in American Roots Music, THE CHAPIN FAMILY has a special place. Tom Chapin, Steve Chapin, Jen Chapin, and The Chapin Sisters are all powerful musical artists who just happen to be related. Magic happens when these singers, songwriters, and extraordinary live performers come together.

The Harry Chapin Band

Continuing the legacy of Harry Chapin after his 1981 passing, The Harry Chapin Band features original members Big John Wallace (bass/vocals), Steve Chapin (piano/vocals), and drummer Howard Fields. Joined by second-generation guitarists Clark Wallace and Jonathan Chapin, the six-piece band travels the country, performing Harry's story songs to fans.

Tom Chapin

With a five-decade career spanning 26 albums and three Grammys, Tom Chapin shines as a Hudson Valley troubadour. A versatile artist who has graced Broadway, TV, and film, Chapin is both a contemporary folk artist and pioneer in children's music. He's known for insightful, heartfelt, and charismatic performances of life-affirming songs.“One of the great personalities in contemporary folk music.” - New York Times

Jen Chapin

Jen Chapin is touring a cabaret-style performance of her "potent, jazzy, layered folk” (Newsday) entitled Anything Goes, and How Did We Get Here? The two-set show weaves history-infused, jazz-inspired, hope-targeted questions and answers about our current and rapidly-changing political moment around old and new selections from Jen’s catalog of “brilliant soulfully poetic urban folk music” (NPR), earning rave reviews from concert goers across the USA and Canada.

The Chapin Sisters

"The Chapin Sisters can harmonize like angels," raves Popmatters of real-life siblings Abigail and Lily Chapin. These masters of blood harmony have been praised for their "lilting voices, dynamically complex vocal harmonies, and folk-influenced melodies" by critics. The duo crafts music described by The New York Times as "tantalizingly close to beauty," forging a distinctive sound while carrying on a legendary family musical legacy.

Carrying on a musical legacy...

Harry Chapin (1942 - 1981) was one of our most passionate, political, prolific and inspiring songwriters. Two generations of the musical Chapin Family will gather to bring the songs of Harry Chapin to life. Backed by The Harry Chapin Band (including Big John Wallace and Howard Fields), the Family will perform a mix of Harry’s classic songs, including Cat’s In The Cradle, Taxi, Mr. Tanner, Mail Order Annie, W•O•L•D, and Circle. As the family band members trade lead vocals, back each other up, tell stories and remembrances, the music comes alive with the iconic arrangements of the exceptional Harry Chapin Band, as well as some reimagining of familiar favorites and a few songs from the family catalog of songwriters.

Starting their professional music careers at ages 12 and 10, in the Greenwich Village Folk Scene of the 1960’s, Tom and Steve Chapin started playing music as The Chapin Brothers alongside their brother Harry, and have gone on to six decades of storied musical careers of their own- Tom, as a 3-Time Grammy Award winning Folk and Children’s Entertainer and Steve as Harry’s Producer/Arranger and Leader of the Harry Chapin Band. Harry’s daughter Jen Chapin blends adept storytelling-songwriting with a critically-acclaimed Jazz-infused style. The Chapin Sisters, Tom’s daughters Abigail and Lily, bring their celebrated unique blend of Appalachian harmony, folk, and classic country rock to the evening.

To honor Harry’s commitment to fighting hunger, we will have a Food Drive in connection with this concert. The audience is encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to a local food bank.
